Frequently asked questions

Can I do this work without plant medicine?
Plant medicine is always optional - and when it is included, many find that it can be a potent tool. Used with clear intention and skilled support, it can accelerate access to the emotional material that’s been defended against. Cannabis and psilocybin are the medicines I work with - and everything you need to know before going in, we cover together.
How is this different from talk therapy?
Emotional Liberation® works at a different level than traditional therapy - and for many people, it reaches places talk therapy never could. It works at the level where patterns actually shift. It engages the nervous system and the body’s learned emotional responses, helping unwind reactive cycles that often persist even though you understand them intellectually. The result is change you can feel - especially under stress and in relationships. I’m a credentialed Emotional Liberation practitioner, plant medicine facilitator, and Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist - not a licensed psychotherapist. What I offer is a distinct method - and for many people, it reaches places other modalities never could.
I’ve carried Shame my whole life. Is it really possible to change that?
Yes. And I say that not as reassurance, but because I’ve seen it happen - in people who had carried Shame for decades, who had tried everything, who had stopped believing change was possible. Shame feels permanent because it’s woven into identity. It doesn’t feel like something you have - it feels like something you are. That’s what makes it so resistant to conventional approaches. But it’s a pattern. And patterns can change. Not through willpower or positive thinking, but through the kind of experiential, body-based work that reaches where Shame actually lives - which is exactly what the Emotional Liberation work is designed to do. The timeline varies. Some people feel a significant shift early in the work. For others - particularly those for whom Shame has been a lifelong companion, woven through early experiences and repeated wounds - the work is slower, more layered, and asks for more patience. That’s not a limitation. That’s the nature of healing something that runs this deep. What I can tell you is that the capacity for change doesn’t have an expiration date. If you’re wondering whether working with me is a good fit for you, the best next step is a complimentary Discovery Session. You’ll complete a client intake form first, then we’ll meet on Zoom to explore what’s possible.

Ready to let Shame and Guilt become what they’re meant to be?

Sessions work with these emotions as internal compasses – not weapons – through psycho-spiritual inquiry, expressive movement, and conscious plant medicine.

Beyond the Guru: An Authentic Spiritual Awakening

By Becca Williams  |  March 26, 2026  |  Updated May 15, 2026

We retired the word "guru" after a parade of scandals exposed beloved spiritual teachers as manipulators and predators. Now, the shaman is having its cultural moment - and the warning signs are beginning to look unsettlingly familiar. Are we romanticizing another archetype of spiritual authority, or have we finally learned our lesson?

Portugal Bans the Burka: Why Erasing Women Isn’t Culture

By Becca Williams  |  October 23, 2025  |  Updated June 2, 2026

Portugal’s proposed ban on face coverings has stirred deep emotion. I see this moment as a reckoning with shame and visibility. Being told to hide your face isn’t culture – it’s erasure. My work is about freeing ourselves from the stories that silence us, and this conversation reminds me that being seen, in all our humanity, is where healing begins.

Neck Check: When Aging and Poultry Collide

By Becca Williams  |  March 5, 2025  |  Updated June 12, 2026

Ah, the infamous "turkey neck" – the charming little souvenir that time bestows upon us as we gracefully age. It's as if one day, I was confidently wearing a favorite necklace, and the next,  contemplating turtlenecks in the peak of summer.

This experiment is still in its early days – now in my 9th week, I’m fully immersed in what’s surfacing for me! My assignment is a full year – 52 weeks of paying attention, week by week, to the constant stream of self-judgment about my body and my face. And let me tell you, it’s eye-opening.

Boys don’t make passes at girls who wear glasses

By Becca Williams  |  February 21, 2025  |  Updated June 13, 2026

To this day I have a tinge of self consciousness when I wear my glasses – after all these decades of "shame work" I've done on myself. And that's even after proving over and over again that, indeed, boys do make passes at girls who wear glasses! (But, of course, in this day and age, "boys making passes" is likely an outdated concept.)

Booty trapped: When the butt is the main focus

By Becca Williams  |  February 13, 2025  |  Updated June 13, 2026

I grew up in the era (or maybe it's always the era?), where it was common to hear men say, "I'm a butt man" or "I'm a leg man" or whatever female body part was being singled out. But it seems the butt was a particular favorite … and according to this study, it apparently still is.

How Now Brown… Spot 🟤

By Becca Williams  |  February 7, 2025  |  Updated June 15, 2026

Yes, let’s talk brown spots – those little patches of pigment that pop up uninvited. They go by many names: age spots, sun spots, liver spots (which is both misleading and mildly alarming), and my personal favorite –“wisdom freckles.” …because if we’re going to have them, we might as well make them sound poetic 😂

Old Lady Hands [Body UNshaming: 69-ish]

By Becca Williams  |  January 28, 2025  |  Updated June 17, 2026

This body shaming thing is so insidious. Now, with my awareness in full gear, I see just how deep the self-shaming goes. The latest example was just last week when my executive assistant, Carsey, sent me a picture of myself and said, "Wow! I love this picture! Can we use it?” My response was immediate and visceral: "Old lady hand!" ...shouting over our back-and-forth text messaging.

Hanging by the skin of my teeth [Being 69-ish]

By Becca Williams  |  January 23, 2025  |  Updated June 17, 2026

Sometimes it seems I live in a hall of mirrors where brilliant white light flashes back at me whenever someone opens their mouth and smiles. White, white, white teeth are everywhere! And this observation is yet another one of my little (not so little?) comparing and contrasting to others. This is only my 3rd week installment to uncover the countless ways I catch myself judging my appearance – and much of it is sizing myself up to others.

Mind the (thigh) gap! Being 69-ish

By Becca Williams  |  January 16, 2025  |  Updated June 18, 2026

This is the 2nd week installment of my mission over 52 weeks (all of 2025) to uncover the countless ways I catch myself judging my appearance – or how I imagine others might judge me. This week: Thigh gap phobia. In earlier years, it use to be a morning ritual. I'd get out of bed, stand up, put my legs together and look down to see if I had "space" between my thighs – that coveted thigh gap.
