There’s a lot of talk these days about getting the most out of a psychedelic journey. Of course, if you’re plotting and planning to do one, it makes sense that you focus on the best way to leverage the experience in the long-term. And as I discuss in this reprise video, that also means taking a cue from how the 60’s missed the mark.

Even if you’re not a child of the 1960’s and 70’s, you may be familiar with LSD guru Timothy Leary and his slogan “turn on, tune in, drop out.”
He explained that the “drop out” part meant “drop out of conformity” …release yourself from the strictures of a society forcing you to be something that you aren’t and really don’t want to be.
But, in the end, the “drop out” part was kind of, sort of, a miserable failure as hippies – who pledged to change the world with their new found psychedelic-inspired perspectives, ultimately were sucked back into the same old, same old matrix… left bending to the will of a culture premised on status, money, and success.
Now when this is discussed, it’s usually spoken of with a roll of the eyes. But there’s no blame to be assigned here. Having revelations during non-ordinary states of consciousness, either through psychedelics or other approaches can be life-changing as people release self-limiting beliefs and patterns to get closer to their authentic Self. That is “Self” with a capital “S” ….a spiritual connotation where a person has stripped themselves of ego-driven needs of approval.
And this is where integration comes in. If we’ve done the work to be in touch with our “inner terrain” …we still need to align and “make meaning” of those feelings, those sensations, those ideas that emerge so that they can re-set our daily functioning.
It’s a big controversial thing these days in how to do that. I see this a lot with the people who come to me to learn how to emotionally heal and consciously create a new version of themselves. Often they’ve experienced several – or many –psychedelic trips, with LSD, ayahuasca, psilocybin – and psilocybin microdosing without seeing a lot of progress. Or trying other therapeutic methods that haven’t turned the corner for them.
And what I believe is often the missing part of the equation – is judicious and skillful approaches to integration for optimal personal transformation. No matter how you bring them on – non-ordinary states of consciousness can unearth lots of sensations and feelings! And if we don’t have ways to “integrate” them, they can simply defrag like forgetting a dream if we don’t write it down when we wake-up. And we lose it.
That’s why I believe, in this work, it’s imperative to align your inner and outer emotional life … and to do that, we need a well-defined road map for integration that leads to emotional healing. And that’s what I teach… plugging into both the intuitive – going inward – to seek healing and answers and engaging the cognitive… the thinking brain so we can optimize our new skills and tools in our day-to-day relationships.
What’s your take on “integration” as it relates to healing the emotional and physical body? What’s been your biggest challenge in healing? Have you found clear-cut solutions to feeling better? Drop down to the comments section and let me know. I always love to hear from you.
I’m Becca Williams, and I want you to lead your most magnificent life and I want to help you do that!
In all the spiritual programs, counseling and therapy I’ve engaged in, I have yet to find long term, lifelong healing from the emotional trauma I’ve endured and the emotional turmoil I continue to experience. I want so badly to find a concrete solution to emotional healing. I firmly believe that Divine Intervention guided me to the Conscious Community Facebook group that you started, Becca. I also believe that I will be forever grateful for this guidance and for you!
