The rise of artificial intelligence has been quietly creeping into our lives until, suddenly, it’s everywhere! Have you noticed?
I even recently got a piece of email that gave me a double-take – an ad for an AI-powered “Soul Guide”. More on the Soul Guide in this video.
Transcript
So, I recently received an email promotion probably because I’m a mental wellness clinician.
The email promotion was “Soul Guide: Your Own Circle of Spiritual Masters” … Begin your conversation with your own personal GPT-powered Soul Guide today!
I couldn’t resist. So, in going to the Soul Guide website, it exclaims: “Your trusted AI companion deeply rooted in spiritual wisdom and trained to support you in becoming your greatest Self.”
Now to be fair, I think I spent thousands of dollars on therapists back in the day wanting to become “my greatest Self” …that’s more sophisticated than how I would have said it back then. Probably more like I feel bad, and I want to feel better. Unfortunately, therapy didn’t help much; it took something else and to what I do to this day.
Anyway, fast forward to today, we have an epidemic of people feeling bad and wanting to feel better. Nearly 40% of adults in the Western world, including the U.S. and Europe, report symptoms of anxiety and depression, according to the Kaiser Foundation, an independent source for health research.
So, artificial intelligence to the rescue?
I walked through Soul Guide’s website, signed-up to get their messages via WhatsApp. I got a choice between the Bible and the Tao Te Ching, which is essentially a spiritual text of Chinese wisdom, that I sometimes use in my teaching …so that’s what I went with.
I was given 3 choices for guidance: either relationships, career or growth. I chose relationships for this test… So for every question I had, Soul Guide replied with a passage from the Tao Te Ching as an answer.
So for instance, I put in a question that I get a lot: “How do I know whether I should get a divorce?”
It came back with the Tao passage, “When standing at the cross roads of a relationship, listen to the whispers of your heart and the gentle winds of intuition. Just as a river knows its own course, trust in your inner knowing to guide you.”
Another passage was sent to me when I was asked further whether I wanted a reply on Follow your heart, Trust intuition or Seek guidance. When I choose intuition … I got a passage that said “Trust your intuition, for it is the compass that guides you through the labyrinth of life.
And then it continues sending me passages for as long as I want to continue receiving answers.
There are a couple of thoughts I have on this and the first is people will pick up sacred texts like the Tao Te Ching or the Bible for solace. And at least by reading the passages, it can take your mind off your troubles.
And so many people are suffering without anywhere to turn that simply reading something that feels soothing could be helpful. There are countless people who have nowhere to turn and no one to talk to. So “Soul Guide” would be taking the place of real live therapeutic help.
But not so much, the passages are flowery, poetic verse that give no definitive answers. So, if you don’t know how to trust your intuition or listen to it, then the words are merely words. And nothing has been solved.
Learning to listen to your intuition is a skill and it’s learned through a process of practicing how to be in touch with your intuition – that deep inner knowing, which we also refer to as “soul”. And this is the path to emotional healing.
I personally couldn’t navigate flowery, poetic language that suggests I get in touch with my intuition but doesn’t tell me how to do it. And that’s a HUGE missing piece in this AI offering.
So, my bottom line review of this AI app, this new robotic offering – in one of the most personal and intimate of all human experiences, doesn’t do the job.
If you do want to explore your intuition – that invisible inner life where all our hopes and dreams reside, I’m including a link to a powerful meditative practice we do in my masterclass courses, called Find Out What You’re Feeling.
And I guarantee if you do this practice all the way through – it’s about 28 minutes – you’re going to feel better. The movement and the breath work is about 11 minutes followed by an experiential walk through what you’re feeling and why!
So, I invite you to go to that link … if you’re watching on my website, it’s below the video and if you’re watching on Youtube, the link will be in the corner.
I’m Becca Williams, and I want you to lead your most magnificent life, and I want to help you do that.
Two things:
1) Here’s the link to the practice to feel better: https://beccawilliams.org/awareness/
(Let me know how it goes!)
2) And if you’re looking to check-out the “Soul Guide” their website is: https://www.soulguide.ai
