If the audience numbers dropped I knew that I wouldn’t have my anchor/reporter job for much longer. You’re paid to attract eyeballs and if they start blinking and turning the channel then you start counting the days left on your contract. That’s just the way it was.
So I have a long and enduring history with this thing called stress.
Of course, that was many years ago and now, as a trained emotions specialist, I look back on those times with a new orientation of what stress is all about.

Stress: When you don’t know how else to explain it
The term stress is actually a catch-all that’s a fairly generic and meaningless term – although very accepted by our culture. In fact, in our culture, until we hit a wall and are labeled with a “mental illness” diagnosis (and the meds that go with it), we’re pretty much encouraged to stumble along using this ambiguous catch-all term, stress.
We’ve all been trained to talk about stress. “Stress is happening” and “I have no control over it”.
I do teach “Stress reduction” but it’s actually about learning to be more in touch with what we’re feeling.
Stress is an emotional reaction where there’s a sense of tension. It signals a rise in cortisol and adrenaline, a tightening of the body, a rise in heart rate. When we’re educated about emotions and in touch with what we’re feeling, these symptoms are all responses that occur in fear and anxiety, depression and often anger.

So anyway, I tell you this because I’ve chosen the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend (this weekend!) to offer a cutting-edge approach to a deep dive to connect with what may be stressing you out.
