Would you wear an invisible force field that ensures lack of interaction?

I was taking my morning bike ride the other day (summer early morning in Florida is the only time when it’s below 90℉).

As usual, I peddled along the bike path, admiring the spectacular greenery and ocean views. I also passed a lot of people on foot taking their morning stroll. One was a middle-aged woman wearing something so peculiar that it prompted a double-take because I really couldn’t believe it. I had to stare at it to be certain what I saw.

She was wearing a t-shirt that prominently read: “Don’t Bother Me”. Nothing else, no punchline, just “Don’t Bother Me”.

Frankly, I was so jaw dropped by the message that I didn’t notice much else about her

I would’ve liked to snap a picture but that’s not gonna happen while I’m riding a bike.

Wearing something that says: “Don’t bother me” is like an invisible impenetrable force field that ensures lack of interaction. Of course, without asking her I wouldn’t have the faintest idea about why she wears it. I mean, she may put it on for her walks so she can be left alone. Even as a joke it strikes a “kidding on the square” (i.e. that is kidding, but also really meaning it) message: “Stay away from me!”.

As someone who specializes in (cannabis-assisted) emotional recovery, I help people decipher their difficult emotions so they can feel what they’re feeling in order to release them. So the importance of wanting to shutout all human interaction from the outside world fascinates me.
“Why?” You might ask.

Human interaction is the singular most potent way we can grow our Souls

In my masterclass courses there are two vital components that we explore – our “Inner” terrain to know what we’re feeling and why we’re feeling it – and the “outer” terrain where we take what we’ve learned out into our world and interact with the people in our orbit. In doing so, we strengthen our internal compass and can course correct based on the stimuli we’re receiving. Yes, it can be messy and hard, but the prize is cutting through your own confusion and chaos so these interactions can become satisfying and joyful.

What I’m getting at is that without people in your life there cannot be feedback to help you grow and evolve. As human beings, we need each other. So when I see someone wearing essentially a sandwich board that screams “Don’t Bother Me” I experience a wave of sadness wondering how painful it must be to live in a world where the safest option is to wall the world out. (Thoughts? Hit reply and share them with me.)

Join our Adulting Adventure to experience togetherness with other people

Every Thursday evening we gather for what I call our “Adulting Adventure“. We engage techniques that are created especially to breakthrough the emotional armor that keeps us from feeling. It’s effective and efficient for releasing whatever is troubling you.

If you’re being drawn to exploring a new way of living I invite you to try this out. Our gatherings are a safe and nurturing environment where we can be ourselves and feel welcomed among like-minded others. It’s the best – as it gets so tiring pretending that we’re not feeling what we’re feeling.

We gotta feel it so that we can release it. If you haven’t connected with me yet to register for Thursday night’s gathering, here’s the link. (If you have, you’re set to go!) If you can’t make it you’ll get the recording the next day. It’s my gift to our awakening community.

Make sure you create a comfy private place for yourself and have your cannabis by your side – whatever type or kind you’re experimenting with.
Get ready for a deep dive that will put you in touch with your Higher Self to meet and release what’s knocking loudest on your head.

With Love,
Becca

  1. I can agree to a certain extent. A T-shirt is a bit much to express that you want to be left alone and yes, I would have felt sad for her as well. On the other hand, sometime when I am in a funk, I isolate myself, don’t reach out, turn the phone off and yeah sometimes I WISH I could wear that shirt. Don’t we all sometimes? But yes, you are right, we DO need each other to grow, I am so grateful to the people in my life who recognize my “funk” and know when to let me isolate and when not to. Thanks for this.
